Partner Alignment Check

Six minutes. Eighteen statements. See where you and your business partners really stand.

  • About six minutes
  • Partners only see your answers if you share your code
  • Compare up to six partners

The Partner Alignment Check is a free six-minute check for business partners and shareholders. Each partner rates 18 statements across six areas: roles and contribution, reward, decisions and authority, money in and out, protection, and exit and change. You see your own result straight away, then share a private code so partners can compare answers. The gaps between you show which conversations to have first. It is built for owners of Australian businesses between $3M and $30M with two to six partners.

Who this is for

Owners, partners and shareholders of Australian businesses turning over $3M to $30M, with two to six owners. It suits working partners and silent partners alike, and families or investors who share ownership. It is most useful when every partner completes it separately.

How the calculation works

Each statement is rated from 1 (Not us) to 5 (Always). An area score is the average of its three statements, and your overall score is the average of the six areas.

Four or more reads as Aligned, three to just under four as Some gaps, and under three as Needs attention.

When partners compare, the gap in each area is the difference between the highest and lowest partner. A gap of one point or more is flagged to talk about first; half a point or more is worth checking.

Built from partnership and restructure work carried out with Ajility clients.

Common questions

What is the Partner Alignment Check?

A free online check for business partners and shareholders. Each partner rates 18 statements across six areas: roles and contribution, reward, decisions and authority, money in and out, protection, and exit and change. Partners can then compare results to see where their views differ.

Will my partner see my answers?

Only if you share your partner code with them. The code holds your first name and your answers, and the comparison runs in the browser of the person who pastes it in.

Is this legal or tax advice?

No. It is general information to help partners see where they agree and where they do not. Speak with your own lawyer, accountant and broker about your circumstances.
